ROBOTICS: FIRST Tech Challenge
Our latest Robot! More details in the Ultimate Goal page below
I formed an FTC team in the summer of 2018 with my dad as the coach. We called it Serenity Now! since we are huge fans of Seinfeld in my family.
The first order of business was to research the competition and figure out which build system to go with. I also had to recruit people for my team. First I asked one of my closest friends to join. Then me and my dad set up a google form and advertised it on Facebook and several school mailing lists. We then interviewed a bunch of kids who showed interest, and recruited 6 more. Another couple of my friends joined, but 4 others were kids I hadn't met before.
We got a starter kit from Rev Robotics, and started putting together a test robot in the summer. I set up a Slack workspace for our team, a google groups email list, and started holding regular weekly meetings in the garage to start building a test robot to get familiar with the system. I also set up Android studio, and started learning Java more extensively.
I had a couple of the team members start designing a website for our team. We held a logo competition to pick a logo. We also brainstormed ideas for outreach events we could do. But mostly we focused on learning the FTC code framework and getting a simple robot to do line following.
In 2020, we pitched to a medical 3D printing startup in Fremont called Printerprezz, and successfully got them to sponser us.
The 2018-2019 season was called Rover Ruckus, the 2019-2020 Skystone, and the current 2020-2021 season Ultimate Goal. Our accomplishments in these seasons are shown in their own project pages below.
